What can you do with iMovie’s editing tools?
Add a video or a photo directly from the camera on your iPhone or iPad to your iMovie project: With your project open in iMovie, scroll through the timeline so the playhead (the white vertical line) appears where you want to add the video or photo. On iPhone, tap the plus button, then tap the Camera button. On iPad, tap the Camera button. Manage iMovie Projects on iPhone. In iMovie on iPhone, tap Projects at the top to see your project list. You can access quick actions by holding and sliding up on a project. This allows you to edit, share, or delete a project quickly. Alternatively, you can tap a Project for its actions. This lets you play, edit, share, or delete.

The latter is a fun feature that puts a few clips together into a Hollywood-style movie trailer. But because there’s not much more you can do with that feature, we’re going to focus the article on working on a Movie.
Step 1. Create a new project
When you open up iMovie on your phone, you should be taken to the Projects screen where you’ll see a list of all of the projects you’ve created. To create a new project:
If you already have a project open in iMovie, then you’ll need to tap Done > Projects, to get back to the Projects screen before you can follow the steps above.

Using iMovie select images and videos from your camera roll to add to your project. You can move the clips around by tapping to select them and then lifting them with your finger to where you want them to go in the timeline.
Trim
If you want to cut out a section at the beginning or end of a clip:
Transitions
By default, iMovie adds a cross-fade transition between your clips. This looks nice but sometimes a straight cut works better.
Click on the transition box between your clips to select the transition type you want to use.
Vertical video

Voice over
Add a voiceover to your movie:

iMovie has free to use music built in. You can overlay this on to your movie without worrying about copyright.

You’ll find these in the same place as you found the theme music.
Overlays
You can overlay one video over another in iMovie. This allows you to create a collage, to take the sound from one video clip and add it to another or to add a picture in picture style movie.
One feature iMovie lacks is the ability to overlay an image on top of a video. This could be a handy way to display a logo at the top of your video.

iMovie is a handy tool for creating quick videos on the go. It will never replace my laptop based editing software, but it can do a lot. I can see myself using it for Instagram stories more in future videos.
